2024 All Star Selection Guidelines

To develop a method for selecting 16 all-star athletes from a pool of seven teams, we can follow a structured approach that takes into account team performance, player age, individual stats, and seeks to find those who deserve recognition.

By following the below method, we seek to ensure a fair selection process that rewards higher-performing teams while also prioritizing experienced players.

Step 1: Each team guaranteed players needs to designate what positions they want to have filled. This will be fill a maximum of 12 positions. Discussion will follow to get these players selected.

Step 2: Discussion will follow to select the remaining players not covered by the guaranteed minimum spots..  No team can go beyond its maximum number of players allotted.

  1. Maximum / Minimum Selections Based on League Performance (By TAIAO an athlete must have completed two quarters in 6 game schedule to participate)
    • Top team: 4 / 3 players
    • Second team: 4 /3 players
    • Third team: 3 / 2 players
    • Fourth team: 3 /2 players
    • Fifth team: 2 / 1 players
    • Sixth team: 2 / 1 players
    • Seventh team: 1 / 0 player
    • Eighth team:1 / 0 player
  1. Player Evaluation Criteria
    • Prioritize Juniors and Seniors over Freshmen and Sophomores.
    • Use MaxPreps statistics to assist with making choices at skill positions
      • Adjust stats based on the MaxPreps strength of schedule (Give weight to teams playing full varsity (non-JV) schedules
      • Adjust stats based upon quarters played (this recognizes some teams play fewer quarters due to the 45 point rule)
    • Account for athletes who are critical to team success but not skill players (eg. Linemen)
    • Match players to positions they are capable of playing (for example, centers need to have played center but a  SB can be considered for a RB or WR)
  1. 16 Positions that need to be filled per team
    • 5 utility offensive players per team
    • 5 utility defensive players per team
    • 2 defensive cornerbacks
    • 1 center per team (i.e. one that can accurately and reliably snap the ball for punts, PATs, Spread offense and under center)
    • 1 Quarterback/Spread back per team (i.e. an “on the field leader” who can pass the ball and run when necessary)
    • 1 Kicker per team (i.e. reliable in PATS, deep kicks, squib kicks and/or onside kicks; best percentage with a minimum/reasonable number of PATs)
    • 1 Return Specialist per team (Athlete)
